Meet Superbacked

Superbacked is a desktop app used to back up and pass on secrets that are too important to lose and too sensitive to share.

Two ways to protect what matters

Superbacked offers two backup types — one for secrets only you should access, one for secrets that need to outlive you.

Encrypted backup

Encrypt secrets using passphrase in an encrypted QR code backup called a block — stored on paper or as a file. No account, no internet connection — only you can decrypt them.

Succession planning

Encrypt secrets using passphrase and split them among people you trust in a set of blocks called a blockset. No single person can access them alone but together the right group can recover what matters — even without you.

Both backup types produce identical-looking blocks — without the passphrase, there is no way to tell an encrypted backup from a succession plan.

Step 1

Enter your secrets and set a passphrase

Select “Single block” as backup type. Enter master passwords, seed phrases or other sensitive data. Choose a strong passphrase or use built-in generator.

Step 3

Step 1

Choose a backup type

Select blockset threshold — how many blocks are needed to recover your secrets: 2-of-3, 3-of-5 or 4-of-7.

Step 2

Enter your secrets and set a passphrase

Enter master passwords, seed phrases or other sensitive data. Choose a strong passphrase or use built-in generator — all blocks share the same passphrase.

Step 3

Print or save and distribute

Superbacked generates blockset. Print blocks on paper or save them as files. Distribute blocks among trusted custodians and locations.

Restore secrets

When the time comes, people you trusted gather blocks and enter passphrase together following recovery instructions. No single person acts alone — threshold you chose protects against loss and collusion alike.

Standalone and detached archive overview

Blocks store text secrets while archives extend Superbacked support to files and folders of any size.

Standalone archive

Encrypt files and folders using passphrase — no blocks needed. Drag and drop files and/or folders, set passphrase and save encrypted archive. To restore, drag archive and enter your passphrase.

Detached archive

Encrypt files and folders alongside text secrets in a block or blockset. Secrets and archive encryption key(s) are stored in block(s) while files and/or folders are encrypted separately into detached archive. To restore, scan block and enter passphrase, then drag and drop archive.

For high-stakes secrets, use Superbacked OS — a hardened operating system that runs offline and persists nothing to disk.
